Three Ways to Work Together

AI Product Leader. Patent holder. Engineer turned PM

I bring 15+ years of search, NLP, and global product leadership to every engagement. Whether you need a full-time product leader, a technical program manager, or a fractional executive to build your product foundation

— here's what I bring to the table.

Search · NLP · Discovery

Most AI PMs understand product. I understand the algorithms too — and I have the patent to prove it.

This is not a pivot. It's a return — with an AI layer added. I spent 7 years at Yahoo! building search and mail products at a scale most PMs never encounter — 40 global markets, hundreds of millions of users, and teams across the US, Israel, Brazil, and India. What set my work apart wasn't just product intuition. It was the ability to go deep. I trained machine learning classifiers to replace static systems with fully dynamic ones. I designed and ran SBS (Side-by-Side) experimentation programs that improved search relevancy by 30%. I improved ad targeting by 25% by analyzing mail search behavioral data. And in 2009, I was named on a USPTO patent for a search relevancy system — an early form of what we now call search-aware personalization. That is not a background someone assembles quickly. It is 15 years of doing the work. Today, I am completing a structured AI certification roadmap — Google AI Essentials, Azure AI Fundamentals, Duke AI PM Specialization, and AWS Cloud Practitioner — to layer current AI vocabulary and tooling onto a foundation that was already technical before most product teams knew what a ranking algorithm was. If you are building a search, NLP, retrieval, or AI discovery product and need a PM who can speak fluently with your ML engineers, evaluate model quality, and translate complex AI capabilities into products users actually choose — that is the work I was built for.

WHAT I BRING:

  • USPTO patent in search relevancy systems — filed 2009, still architecturally relevant today

  • 7 years at Yahoo! shipping search and mail products across 40 global markets

  • Trained ML classifiers; improved search relevancy by 30% through SBS experimentation

  • Improved ad targeting by 25% through mail search behavioral data analysis

  • Launched A/B testing platform that improved experimentation tracking by 70%

  • B.S. Computer Science — I read architecture diagrams, not just product specs

  • MBA from UPC Barcelona — Spain's top technical university

  • Native English and Spanish fluency — proven asset for global product and localization

  • Certifications in progress: Google AI Essentials, Azure AI-900, Duke AI PM · AWS CCP

COMPANIES I AM EXCITED ABOUT:

Elastic · Algolia · Glean · Coveo · Perplexity · Yext · Lucidworks Microsoft (Bing / Copilot) · Weaviate · Vectara · CohereI am also open to EU-based opportunities — particularly in Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam, London, and Dublin — where my UPC Barcelona MBA, Spanish fluency, and US big-tech experience create a genuinely rare combination.

IDEAL ROLE:

  • Title: Senior PM · Group PM · Director of Product

  • Focus: Search · NLP · Retrieval · AI-powered discovery · LLM-enabled products

  • Location: Remote · Hybrid · US or EU

Technical Program Manager

AI/ML Platforms

AI products are only as good as the programs that deliver them. I have been coordinating engineers, data scientists, and product teams since before those three functions knew how to talk to each other.

Program management at Yahoo! was not about tracking tickets. It was about holding the coherence of a complex, multi-stakeholder system across time zones, languages, legal jurisdictions, and competing priorities — and making sure the right things shipped, in the right order, at the right quality.

I managed global search platform release cycles across 40 international markets simultaneously. I owned product planning and prioritization for Yahoo! Search programs spanning teams in the US, Israel, Brazil, and India. I launched an A/B testing platform that improved experimentation tracking by 70%. I was selected as Yahoo!'s expert witness in Argentina's Supreme Court of Justice — not because I could explain search in general terms, but because I understood the system in precise technical and legal detail.

My Computer Science degree means I can read the architecture diagrams, understand the model deployment pipeline, and ask the right questions when an engineer says "it's technically not possible." My 15 years of PM and program management experience means I know how to translate that technical complexity into delivery.

AI/ML platforms are among the most technically demanding program environments that exist — model versioning, data pipelines, experiment frameworks, infrastructuredependencies, and cross-functional coordination between engineering, data science, product, legal, and safety teams. That is exactly the complexity I have navigated throughout my career.

If you need someone who can bring order to a technically complex AI program, coordinate across engineering and science teams, and drive delivery without losing the thread — that is what I do.

WHAT I BRING:

  • 40-market global program management at Yahoo! scale — US, Israel, Brazil, and India

  • Deep cross-functional coordination: engineering, data science, product, legal, and design

  • A/B experimentation platform ownership — launched platform improving tracking by 70%

  • ML release program management: MLR model training, black-box testing, relevancy quality cycles

  • Expert witness in Argentina's Supreme Court of Justice — selected for technical precision

  • B.S. Computer Science — I understand what engineers are building, not just what they report

  • Agile Certified Program Manager and Scrum Master (Scrum Alliance, active)

  • Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-900) — target: August 2026

  • AWS Cloud Practitioner — target: October 2026

  • Native English and Spanish fluency

COMPANIES I AM EXCITED ABOUT:

Google · Apple · Anthropic · Databricks · Scale AI · Nvidia Cohere · Mistral AI (EU) · Any company building AI infrastructure where program rigor is the difference between shipping on time and shipping too late

For EU opportunities: companies with Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin, or London offices are of particular interest given my UPC Barcelona MBA and Spanish fluency.

IDEAL ROLE:

  • Title: Technical Program Manager · Senior TPM · Staff TPM

  • Focus: AI/ML platform delivery · Model release cycles · Cross-functional program coordination

  • Location: Remote · Hybrid · US or EU

Technical Program Manager

Fractional Chief Product Officer

AI-Focused Consulting

You are building something real. You need senior product leadership — without the timeline, cost, or commitment of a full-time CPO hire. That is exactly what I offer.

There is a specific moment in a startup's life where the founding team has outgrown being their own product manager — but is not yet ready for a full-time CPO. The roadmap is drifting. Prioritization is reactive. The team is shipping but not sure they are shipping the right things. Investors are asking questions the team cannot answer clearly. I have been in that room. And I know how to bring order to it.

As a Fractional CPO, I partner with Series A through Series C AI startups on apart-time retainer basis — typically one to two days per week. I bring the product discipline, strategic thinking, and cross-functional leadership of a seasoned big-tech PM, applied at the cadence and cost that early-stage companies can actually sustain.

My background is unusually credible for this work. I hold a Computer Science degree and a USPTO patent in search relevancy. I spent 7 years at Yahoo! leading products across 40 global markets. I have also done the work from the other side: as an independent consultant since 2015, I have advised founders, supported product launches, and helped early-stage teams build the infrastructure they need to scale.

I am particularly effective with AI-native companies in search, NLP, and EdTech — where my technical background creates real credibility with engineering teams, and where my global PM experience accelerates the path from product idea to scalable execution. My native Spanish fluency is also a concrete asset for companies with LatAm markets or expanding into Spanish-speaking regions.

WHAT I DELIVER:

  • Product strategy and roadmap — from vision to quarterly priorities to sprint-level clarity

  • OKR framework design and quarterly planning aligned to investor expectations

  • Hiring and coaching your first full-time PM or Associate PM hire

  • Board and investor communication — product narrative that supports your next round

  • Go-to-market strategy for AI features, new product lines, and international market entry

  • AI product competitive analysis and market positioning

  • Agile process design: sprint structure, backlog management, prioritization frameworks

  • Cross-functional coordination: engineering, design, data science, sales, and customer success

WHO THIS IS FOR:

  • This engagement is the right fit if you recognize yourself here:

  • You are a founder who is currently the de facto PM, and it is pulling you away from the work only you can do.

  • You have raised a Series A or B and need product infrastructure — roadmap, OKRs, prioritization process — before your next round.

  • You are building an AI-native product in search, language, or data and need someone who has done it at scale, not just read about it.

  • Your team is technically strong but struggles to translate what they're building into a story that resonates with users, customers, or investors.

  • You are expanding into Spanish-speaking or EU markets and need a product leader who understands that context from the inside.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Step 1 — Free 30-minute conversation We talk through what you're building, where the friction is, and whether my background is the right match for your stage and problem. No pitch. No pressure. If I can't help, I'll say so and point you elsewhere.

  • Step 2 — Engagement structure Monthly retainer · typically 1–2 days per week Minimum engagement: 3 months Pricing: available on request — sized to Series A/B stage budgets

  • Step 3 — Geography US-based (Lafayette, CA · SF Bay Area) Available for EU-based engagements remotely, with potential in-person availability in Barcelona or Madrid.

Why Work with MJ

Why Work with MJ?

Engineer who became a PM

I started my career writing Java, C++, XML, and Oracle queries — building the first job site in Venezuela from scratch. That engineering foundation means I understand what your team is actually building, not just what they say in standups. When a PM can read the architecture diagram and ask the right question in the right language, delivery accelerates. I am that PM.

Global Product Experience

at real scale

Forty markets. Three continents. Hundreds of millions of users. An expert witness appearance before Argentina's Supreme Court of Justice. I have navigated the kind of regulatory, cultural, and technical complexity that most PMs read about in case studies. I have lived it — and built products through it.

A track record that predates the AI hype

I was training machine learning classifiers, running search relevancy experiments, and building NLP-informed products at Yahoo! before most product teams knew what a language model was. My USPTO patent in search relevancy was filed in 2009. The AI moment we are in now is not new territory for me. It is a homecoming.
